A Review of Surviving Your Serengeti by Stefan Swanepoel

Surviving Your Serengeti is a simple book; which is good. It is an easy read, simple words, and easy concepts; all in all an easy read. This book chronicles a fictitious American couple in the midst of numerous, but not uncommon, life struggles and transitions; and their life-changing trip to the Serengeti in Africa. Their three day journey proves eye-opening as they meet an unexpected old friend who is now one with the Serengeti. This friend, Zachariah, leads this couple through the Serengeti step by step while introducing them to seven amazing animals which all possess different life skills which all can glean from. This book while interesting in concept is a bit contrived, and has no natural flow to it, fiction or not. It reads a bit like an over-scripted play with bad actors. If you are interested in knowing some cool facts about some native African animals and also enjoy a cool looking book jacket, this book is a good bet. But other than that I say,  "pass".

A Review of Max Lucado's Hermie & Friends

This video proves that bugs have a lot more to do than invade picnics, houses, and bite unsuspecting children. The little bugs in this collection of dvd's deal with bickering, fighting, naughty behavior, and lack of praying. On the out set, I must say that the video is quality, has vibrant colors, and cute voices. However, the content is not very good. It seems like the lessons are a bit forced, and not natural to the story line. Also, I know it is trying to prove a point, but I really don't want to show my children bickering on a regular basis. They thus far don't have that problem, and I don't want it modeled to them constantly. All that to say is, I don't quite know what is missing with so many of these Christian dvd's today. I guess everyone can't be veggie tales. All in all I would not say don't borrow it from a friend to see if it is for you, but I would say, don't buy it quite yet.

A Review of Paws and Tales: God Cares for You

Ever wonder what those furry forest animals do when us humans aren't looking. Well, pop some popcorn, and put it Paws and Tales: God Cares for You.  And that is just what we did (my 3 year-old and I). I must say, I have never heard of or seen Paws and Tales, so I came to the table, or couch rather, with no expectations. At first glance I must say the animation is a bit distracting, in that the characters do not move very life-like, it is quite robotic. But, I said who cares and continued to watch with an open mind. The dvd has two main episodes and then songs in between. The songs were nice and catchy, but I felt like I needed to watch the dvd again. As I watched a 2nd time I realized the story was a bit choppy and seemed to just throw God in instead of the principles being weaved seamlessly through it. But at the end of the day what really matters is my child's reaction and receptivity to it. My 3 year old seemed to enjoy the fact that there was something new to watch, but soon the novelty wore off and he never requested the dvd again. He is only 3, so the fact that he did not seem to glean much from the video may be due to age. I  honestly would not recommend the dvd. It is not bad but it is not good. A Review of Love & Respect

The greatest team that ever was created, existed, and victorious can't be found playing on ESPN. It can be in your very own house. This team can be your marriage. Unfortunately, so many people, including Christians will never know this joy. In the Book "Love & Respect" by Dr. Eggerichs, we are introudced to the playbook of married life. This book will not save your marriage, but does give you access to the many tools God has given to us, in order to bless each other in marriage. Know that you must come to this book with an open heart to receive all that is said here. And also know that not every page will fit your exact feeling or perceptions, and that is ok. We are not generic and cannot all be pegged into one book. But this book offers valuable insight into the way God wants our marriage to honor Him. And truly that is was marriage is about. Showing this dead world, the beautiful picture He has in store for them, if they would believe and repent. Go get this book, and enjoy the rewards of implementing this new knowledge.

Review of Precious Moments Storybook Bible

There comes a time in every parents' life, when they begin to think seriously about what influences they allow into their children's brains. From friends to tv to books. It is quite an overwhelming crossroads, but take heart, you can exhale and allow your child to completely devour this book. Precious Moments Storybook Bible is such a breath of fresh air in its accuracy, clarity, and attention to key principles. It is also gender neutral, not only, as most may think only appealing to little girls. Although my 3 year cannot read yet. He requests this book over and over in the day even outside of our morning bible time. Although the pictures of Jesus are not historically accurate. It does have an array of different color children, which is nice. I must say, you and your little one will be missing out if this is not in the regular rotation of bible time.
