A Review of Paws and Tales: God Cares for You

Ever wonder what those furry forest animals do when us humans aren't looking. Well, pop some popcorn, and put it Paws and Tales: God Cares for You.  And that is just what we did (my 3 year-old and I). I must say, I have never heard of or seen Paws and Tales, so I came to the table, or couch rather, with no expectations. At first glance I must say the animation is a bit distracting, in that the characters do not move very life-like, it is quite robotic. But, I said who cares and continued to watch with an open mind. The dvd has two main episodes and then songs in between. The songs were nice and catchy, but I felt like I needed to watch the dvd again. As I watched a 2nd time I realized the story was a bit choppy and seemed to just throw God in instead of the principles being weaved seamlessly through it. But at the end of the day what really matters is my child's reaction and receptivity to it. My 3 year old seemed to enjoy the fact that there was something new to watch, but soon the novelty wore off and he never requested the dvd again. He is only 3, so the fact that he did not seem to glean much from the video may be due to age. I  honestly would not recommend the dvd. It is not bad but it is not good. A Review of Love & Respect

The greatest team that ever was created, existed, and victorious can't be found playing on ESPN. It can be in your very own house. This team can be your marriage. Unfortunately, so many people, including Christians will never know this joy. In the Book "Love & Respect" by Dr. Eggerichs, we are introudced to the playbook of married life. This book will not save your marriage, but does give you access to the many tools God has given to us, in order to bless each other in marriage. Know that you must come to this book with an open heart to receive all that is said here. And also know that not every page will fit your exact feeling or perceptions, and that is ok. We are not generic and cannot all be pegged into one book. But this book offers valuable insight into the way God wants our marriage to honor Him. And truly that is was marriage is about. Showing this dead world, the beautiful picture He has in store for them, if they would believe and repent. Go get this book, and enjoy the rewards of implementing this new knowledge.

Review of Precious Moments Storybook Bible

There comes a time in every parents' life, when they begin to think seriously about what influences they allow into their children's brains. From friends to tv to books. It is quite an overwhelming crossroads, but take heart, you can exhale and allow your child to completely devour this book. Precious Moments Storybook Bible is such a breath of fresh air in its accuracy, clarity, and attention to key principles. It is also gender neutral, not only, as most may think only appealing to little girls. Although my 3 year cannot read yet. He requests this book over and over in the day even outside of our morning bible time. Although the pictures of Jesus are not historically accurate. It does have an array of different color children, which is nice. I must say, you and your little one will be missing out if this is not in the regular rotation of bible time.

Review of The Treasure of God's Word

Hmmm.. how do I put this? This book is a good  book if, and only if you allow your expectations to fly away with the wind once you get past page 4. However there is additional information about the King James translation sprinkled about, but not much.  First let me start by saying, this is a gorgeous book. It is a deep burgundy hardback leather bound book with embossing on the cover. It also is dawned with beautiful type that is a deep gold. Each page is slick, but not the cheap slick, but the nice slick. The kind of page you stare at a minute or so before you even let your eyes digest the text before you. This is indeed a beautiful book. However, It is a book that in 3 pages or so, gives a brief, and I mean brief history of the King James Translation of the bible, and then goes on for 160 pages or so with short chapters that are only scripture references packed together under different subject titles. It this a bad thing? No. But it is an unexpected thing. If you are looking for an in depth celebratory book about the King James translation, this book is not it. But if you are looking for a book that is splendid in its beauty, a great gift, and a good topical reference or lose bible study guide, this is the book for you. All in all I say buy this book, it is good eye candy, and the bible deserves some beauty added to its words. So go ahead, and digest this book. You will not regret it.

My Very First Review

TITLE: Your Money God's Way: Overcoming The 7 Money Myths That Keep Christians Broke
AUTHOR: Amie Streater

The aim of the book, Your Money God's Way is to geared toward Christians and speaks through the lenses of the Author, Mrs. Streater. Streater lays the foundation of the book based on 7 major mistakes she believes Christians tend to make when approaching their finances. In short the mistakes are as follows:

1.)Unrealistic beliefs about the pow money has to improve our lives

2.) Bad habits of trying to bail out reckless people who are dear to us

3.) Wrong Theology

4.) Getting taken advantage of

5.) Not giving, or giving for the wrong reasons

6.) Denial about current circumstances

7.) Blaming God for our bad financial choices

I must say from the offset I approached the book with a bit of skepticism. Why? Well, I think it is quite bold to offer a book outlining the heart issues of why people are doing what they are doing with their money without knowing them individually, and at the same time not offering very much practical counsel about how to end the debt. There are a few pages devoted to some practical steps, but all in all it seems to be a book by an author that has a lot of hyperbole, and not enough step by step help. It also strikes me that this book is very American. Meaning it cannot and will not apply to anybody who does not live in such an affluent culture, or even some in this current culture who are not the dominant race. All that to be said is that coming from someone who grew up with a parent who always worked hard, never squandered money, but still yet never able to buy a house or a nice car. It pains be to know that others might be picking up this book and thinking they are doing something wrong because they won't be able to afford a house someday, or that they choose to live a very frugal lifestyle for the sake of staying at home with the kids, or having a large family. All that to say. This book is for the rich. Although there is a disclaimer about whether you make 25, 000 or 250,000 this book will work for you... I disagree. Maybe this book really does apply to many of you out there, but for my family growing up and all those in our circle, it reads like french. However, for you who are making six figures, have your nice cars, live in your gated communities, and so forth this book is for you. You probably should cut back, and give a lot of it away for the advancement for the kingdom of God.

To comply with new regulations introduced by the Federal Trade Commission, I must post that Thomas Nelson has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book to review. I also must say that the opinions are all mine.

What you must know....

What you must know before you read this blog and fashion your very ideals and beliefs around my every written word is this:

Contrary to the name of this blog I am not if fact, in love with books. I am in the romancing stage where the relationship is a bit volatile. This is the stage where one goes into the wide open library, chooses a book by its cover, takes it home and inhales if it is great! However it if sucks, One may go on a 2 month hiatus banning ones eyes from all sensible reading besides what one already knows is good or will self-help in some way. Therefore, this "love" that I have for books is a bit of a rocky romance, but with time, forgiveness, and communication, things will all work out, and one day there will be a marriage, and then a baby (perhaps a book written by yours truly?) But until then come along for the ride and enjoy my reviews and commentary.
